Our Home Educating Lives

The Turner Family

Thanks to the flexibility of home education, our family travels and learns through real-world experiences. Over the past two years, we've explored Europe, immersing ourselves in diverse cultures, languages, and landscapes. We believe education happens anywhere, anytime, in countless ways.

How our home education style lets our children thrive.

For us, home education develops curious, adaptable, globally aware children. Our children learn history by walking through ancient ruins, geography by navigating different terrains, and languages through local conversations. Outside of  classrooms, they experience the world firsthand, developing deep understanding of global cultures and perspectives.

I personally grew up with limited travel experiences, with my first trip abroad coming in my teenage years. By contrast, our children are learning about the world from a young age, gaining confidence and cultural awareness that will serve them throughout their lives.

We belong to a growing community of "world schoolers"—families educating their  children while traveling. Across the globe, world schooling hubs and communities provide support, social opportunities, and shared learning experiences, and we are excited to explore these more in the future.

A glimpse into our home educating lives...

Our  family balances travel with stability  by  following a seasonal approach, spending  winter months in Europe and  summers  in the UK. This allows us to take advantage of off peak travel and the festival season in Europe,  and  gives us time to catch up with our supportive local home education community whilst in the UK.

When world schooling, every day differs. Our first year, we traveled by car, staying monthly in Airbnbs. This year, we're in our motorhome, rarely staying more than a week anywhere, creating more dynamic experiences. Near beaches, our children play sports, build sandcastles, and explore coastal wildlife. Near cities, they experience local transportation, museums, architecture, historical sites, and restaurants. During bad weather, we enjoy board games, LEGO, or online learning programs for Maths and English. Currently, they're fascinated by animals and already planning our next destinations!

This approach gives our children both deep community connections and exciting adventures that continuously expand their knowledge and perspectives.

World schooling provides our family an enriching way to learn and grow together as we embrace learning beyond borders.
