Our Home Educating Lives
Miles's Family
We are flexible learners, particularly child led with gentle guidance with core subjects (maths and English). Prioritising self-care, independence and life skills. We have home educated for 3 years and have at some point or another trialed all styles of learning, now embracing different parts from all of them that help an all round learning style.

How our home education style lets our child thrive.
Miles is incredibly independent and we embrace this with life skills, particularly due to his health conditions this supports him to embrace his needs and build life long resilience. The flexibility of changing up ‘learning styles’ helps us work around miles’ ever changing needs. Miles suffers from 23 allergies, chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma, severe eczema and mental health struggles at just 7 years old. By letting him lead his learning he has built confidence in his own time and allowed him crucial rest when needed. He has thrived not only with confidence but also a positive increase in his health and wellbeing. We use gentle encouragement with core subjects to ensure he can progress in the areas he loves. He has built solid friendships with common interests. I am proud that we are able to have the freedom to see Miles as an individual give him a truly bespoke childhood that is right for him.

A glimpse into our home educating lives...
We spend every day on what we feel is important to his physical life which is self care and independence this does not always mean physically doing something but also knowing his body and his limitations. We embrace days out encouraging the curiosity of his young mind and following all his questions and curiosities. This includes a lot of time spent in nature and animal care, this has helped with his own self care. We are lucky enough to have space for a home ed room in the house which is full of resources for him to explore at his own leisure but we also encourage progression of Maths and English. This includes a library of fiction and non fiction books, education games, arts and crafts as well as science experiment options. We ensure he has time for himself to do what he would like to this usually includes quiet time. Every comment and every movement we make we use to find a way to make it educational and thought provoking to always ensure growth, not only for the children but also for us!
